Trash to Fashion

on the 28th of April 2007 i competed in the anual trash to fashion awards held at founders theater. it seems like you create a garment out of recycled materials and present it in a show but that's not all. i had two practises and one rehearsal.my first practise was an hour long. my second practise was three hours long. And my third practise was four hours long and ended at ten at night! the next day my category performed dressed, make-up and all, and then had an individual meeting with the judges to tell them about the garment. then that night was the real deal. we displayed our garments i front of HEAPS of people!

what is the trash to fashion show?

This is an exciting fashion parade that showcases the creative talent of designers in our region. The designers create garments from recycled materials; the competitions aim is to raise awareness of recycling and waste issues in our community.

Judging:

in each category three people are awarded; first gets $300 cash, and two highly commended are awarded with $100.

results:

out of the seventeen people in my category i got a highly commended....

...which means money :)

Diary - day 6

Silhouettes were vaguely made out through my sealed eyes.

My body suddenly sensed presence and I snapped out of my doze.

I immediately wondered whether this was reality or if I was still dreaming.

Because before my weary eyes lay creatures I had only ever imagined.
I let out a piercing scream of shock and the others shot into awareness.

I let my mind adjust to the thought that mythical creatures were standing opposite me.

My instinct screamed at me that they were nice and the gleam in their eyes, somewhat familiar, convinced me to trust them.

“Caitlin!” was yelled, from what seemed like miles away but was from Alex, standing at my side.

I finally grasped the thread in my mind that was causing me so much confusion; some of our fellow classmates had been critically transformed into mythical creatures.

We greeted them with a hesitant wave.

We responded to their beckoning by uncertainly heaving our selves on what we thought was Caitlin the Pegasus’s back.

we smoothly rose with a tornado of pandemonium circling our every move.

leaves, sticks and everything else whipped my face as we finally swiftly swooped out of the brief whirlwind of chaos into still calmness where gravity set upon us, but not for long.

We soared past trees at an incredible velocity.

We ducked and dodged everything in our path.

We surveyed the astounding scene and admired everything with tremendous joy.

We gradually decelerated to a smooth landing at what we recognized as pa site 1.

A small wide-eyed figure jerked awake with fright then relaxed, her fear facially evaporated and was replaced with obvious relief.

the creatures left with a nod and a swoop.

‘Kitty Kat’, we murmured under our breaths as we glanced at the person sitting exhausted on the ground.

Annmaree, Alex and I plonked ourselves on the dirty ground with a thump beside kitty Kat and begun to exchange our adventures.

she told us of a ghostly presence that howled through the pa site at night.

we finally lay back, overwhelmed, confused and worried.

we did not doubt kitty Kat for a second as something in her eyes and stern body language, forbade us to.

words of confusion whizzed through my head.

'plan' was murmured

'we need to plan' Annmaree said, more clearly now.

we finally concluded our discussion with some fruit salad and condensed milk.

as we stared up into the deadly bruised sky and fell into a deep, well earnt sleep.

we simultaneously woke up to a dead dark silence.

for a second, everything blacked out, but as i absentmindedly looked up into the core of light i caught a glimpse of what looked like a giant octopus.

but our thoughts of wonder and possibilities were interrupted by wave of energy that surged through the earth.

my frail body slamed to the ground, and then........nothing.

SOMETHING ODD! 2

If a magical tortoise was going to do a dance what would the dance represent?

If a purple skunk was going spray you what would you bribe him not to with and why?

If a pig and a goose had an argument what would they be arguing over?

keep the creativity coming!!!
